In turn, my eye has been drawn to black and white street photography since I first picked up an SLR camera in 2003. Those people I once watched on the bus were now my subjects around the entire downtown area, covering festivals, protests, concerts, and everyday life. Familiar faces popped up in various scenes, bringing a unity to the thousands of frames shot.
With my version of street photography, I try to shed light on the easily unnoticed or in some cases, deliberately ignored splendor of humanity in a typically large, difficult to take in scene. Half political message, half personal reflection on the world, anything from the intensity of dancing in a drum circle, an old man and young boy reflecting on a peace protest before war, or the exhalation of smoke in a dark New York City doorway, though simple, can prove to be moments worthy of capturing and sharing. Ultimately, I want people to see, appreciate, and love humanity and life to the same, almost exhausting extent that I do.
